Who are we?
The APBCW is a networking and support council for women doing business within the Asia Pacific, with an emphasis on importing and exporting.
Through building awareness and acknowledging success stories and individual women of distinction, the council has a unique infrastructure of mentors from whom businesses and individuals can gain access to first hand information and strategies that have lead to proven success.
The APBCW is also dedicated to bringing front of mind awareness to the issues faced by women within the Asia Pacific region through raising financial resources in support of cause based charities such as UNIFEM and World Vision.
Primarily the APBCW values and supports the empowerment of all women to reach their full potential within the Asia Pacific business arena. Whilst maintaining the integrity of focus in support of outreach programs to the wider community of women in the Asia Pacific region.
The Asia Pacific Business Council for Women Inc. was established in 1994 to support women trading or interested in doing business with the Asia-Pacific region.
The Council is well supported by businesses, the corporate sector and government. Members include many successful prominent business women as well as quiet achievers who represent businesses from small to medium size enterprises to leading organisations.
Our strength and growth potential lies in the diversity of our members who are willing to help each other to develop new networks and skills to expand international trade in the Asia Pacific region.
Where is the Asia-Pacific?
The APBCW follows the
framework established by APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation)
and therefore countries of interest for the Council are represented
as follows.
Member Economies of APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation)
include:
~ Australia |
~ Korea ~ Malaysia ~ Mexico ~ New Zealand ~ Papua New Guinea ~ Peru . |
~ Philippines ~ Russia ~ Singapore ~ Taiwan ~ Thailand ~ US ~ Vietnam |
Important Statistics about the Asia Pacific:
- there are 21 countries in the Asia Pacific
- with a total population of over 2.5 billion people
- having a combined GDP of 19 trillion US dollars
- equivalent to 47% of world trade
The APBCW commends the work done by APEC. Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) was established in 1989 in response to the growing interdependence among Asia-Pacific economies. It is the primary regional vehicle for promoting open trade and practical economic cooperation.
APEC recognised that women-owned or managed businesses have become a significant economic power as well as a major instrument for sustainable development.
The countries listed above are important trading partners with Australia and we encourage business women to support the APBCW objectives and take advantage of Asia-Pacific economic dynamism.
